a few thoughts on…the red white and blue
Red. White. Blue. Red– for the passion that spurred the vision for men and women to start a country where “all men are created equal”, for the blood that was spilled in the past, the blood being spilled now, and the blood to be spilled in the future for the truth that freedom comes with a cost, and we are so blessed to have those who are willing to fight for freedom. “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that allRead more
Thankful Thursday
Every Spring, I look forward to seeing them–these splashes of blue in fields of green. Some might consider them weeds, just sprouting up here and there and everywhere. But me? I think they’re beautiful…absolutely beautiful. I’ve always loved them, but this year, well, it’s been even more of a blessing to see them. Why? Because they’re predictable. They stretch up every year. There’s something so comforting these days about things that are predictable, steady, anticipated. Like blue cornflowers in aRead more
Thankful Thursday
There’s always a lot to be thankful for in a day, let alone in a week. These past few weeks were no different and held some pretty special moments. All around me were signs that the seasons are changing. Here are a few: The weather has started to change a bit, as have the colors of the trees. Yep. Nothing stays the same, that’s for sure. The summer is flying by, and the winds of change areRead more

Thankful Thursday
Thankful for a few reminders this week: First, sometimes when and where we least expect it, we could find a reason to smile. Reminder number two: Storms don’t just bring lightning and thunder and downpours. They also bring rain that waters plants, rain that induces growth. Rain helps plants bear fruit (or vegetables!) one day. Reminder number three: Good things take time. Beautiful old water oaks were once tiny little acorns. Yes, good things take time. It’s sad when anRead more
a few thoughts on giving and (not) receiving…
“You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink” You can share the deepest truth, but you can’t force one to think You can light a brilliant candle, but a friend can close their eyes You can prepare a wondrous feast, but can’t give an appetite You can give the greatest gift, but one must choose to receive You can share the greatest truths, but one must choose to believe What we can do yes weRead more
…he said yes…
So, in recent weeks, I have heard reference to a story multiple times. It’s a story in the Bible of a man who had been sick for a long time. I’m not certain of the infirmity, but according to scripture, he had been waiting to be healed for close to 4 decades. Yep, almost 40 years of waiting. So Jesus comes along and asks him a very obvious question. This is how John 5:1-5 tells the story…“After this there was aRead more
Weekly Photo Challenge ~ “Off Season”
The 2014-15 high school baseball season is over. The season of older brother-senior-high school-baseball player Chase being in the dug out and on the field with younger brother JV not-yet-starter-freshman-player Tanner is over. So is the season of brothers going to school together. It is so sad to see this season end because the older brother has not only encouraged the younger brother, but has also encouraged those around him who were quietly watching the interactions on the sidelines.Read more
