Amidst all of the crazy noise in today’s world, am thinking about thinking. The whole “Whatever goes.” “Whatever you think.” “Whatever I feel like.” “Whatever happens…” mentality of the day leads somewhere. Am thinking…Nope, not for me because “whatever” leads to “wherever”. The path of least resistance has a way of leading in a downward spiral. Nope. “Wherever” is so not where I want to end up.
So here’s a new (old) thought: “whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or have seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.” Philippians 4:8-10.
Peace?
Peace.
“As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” Proverbs 23:7. Makes sense then that as a woman thinks in her heart, so is she. Praying for strength, wisdom, tenacity for my dear friends, sisters, daughter, (and even future daughters-in-law!)…that in a world that screams insanity, we’d fill our minds with truth that spills over into this world that definitely needs strong doses of truth, peace and hope. Hope doesn’t disappoint. But it comes from somewhere. And from Someone. And hope strengthens in a way that goes deep and reaches wide. We can’t quiet the clamor around us, but we can be wise about what voices we listen to, what ‘noise’ we let in. For sure. So often, we don’t even realize the impact of the ‘noise’ that we invite into our homes, our lives, our hearts. Am so aware of that and realize again and again how it matters and is worth fighting for and against.
Just a few thoughts from a mom who wants good things for her kids and is so aware of the noise that invades not just the quiet, but the solitude of heart and mind.
So, not whatever goes, but ‘whatever is’. Praying we choose our ‘whatevers’ and build parameters of whatever we let into our minds…because that will fill our hearts and spill over into our lives.
