Today I’m thankful for rain.
I’m thankful for rain that fills birdbaths, waters flowers, and greens the grass.
I’m thankful for rain that washes the deck, rinses my not-as-white-as-it-should-be-car, and washes away so much of the dirt that we don’t even realize was there until we see how it looks after the rain. Rain rejuvenates, refreshes, and revives.
I’m thankful for the birdbath that, after the rain, reminded me of the some beautiful truths. When a bird bath sits for a few days, it’s amazing how quickly the water becomes cloudy, green, and can quickly go from being a thing of beauty to an eyesore. Water that sits and is stagnant quickly develops bacteria and algae that clouds the clarity of the water. But when the rain comes? It flushes out the old and brings in the new clear, clean, sparkling water. It looks new.
What a Spring rain is to the birdbath, the Word of God is to my Spirit. I’m thankful that the Word of God is just like that Spring rain that clarifies, infuses life, cleanses, and bathes the mind with Truth. When my children were little, I shared with them that reading God’s word is like a “truth bath”. It bathes our mind with truth and rinses away the clutter and wrong beliefs. I sat down and read the Word of God for awhile today and it was amazing how the cluttered thoughts and frustrations, the worries and the sadness were washed away by the Truth that God knows what He’s doing. I can trust Him. When I’m not praying and reading through, I can still say the Words and live the part, but without the Word of God infusing NEW life, it’s so easy to become stagnant with a cloudy vision. The downpour of the Word of God filled and encouraged me to keep keeping on.
I’m thankful for laughter shared with goofy dramatic children, and conversations started wtih students who are struggling. I’m thankful for words spoken and hugs given, struggles prayed through and tears shed for those who are losing loved ones. I’m thankful for hope. I’m thankful for the beauty of rain drenched flowers and the way the drops stay on the petal for awhile before they are fully absorbed. Like a flower absorbing the rain that falls, i want to absorb what God has for me to see in His Word. But in order to do that, I need to immerse myself in God’s word.
So, yes, I’m thankful. I’m thankful, thankful, thankful and so aware that any given moment things can change and I need to appreciate the right here, right now, with those in my care right here right now. I’m thankful for sleep…and that in a few moments, I’ll be able to get the rest I’ve longed for all week. I’ll rest for a few hours anyway. But as I lay my head on that pillow, no matter how tired my body is, the Word of God has so refreshed my Spirit. He’s a “fountain of living water.” He refreshes and rejuvenates. He comes like a Spring rain…any time of year, any moment of the day. Like the spring rain refreshes flowers, greens the grass, and flushes out the old with the new, am praying that time in God’s word will do the same for anyone of us who take the time to seek out the Word of God. Jesus said that “the water that I give will become in them a spring of water gushing up to eternal life.” John 4:13-14. Spring rain. A spring flowing. Gushing up…to eternal life. Rain infuses with life. God’s Word infuses with life.
Let it rain!
“So let us know, let us press on to know the Lord. His going forth is as certain as the dawn.
And He will come, He will comes to us like the rain, like the Spring Rain, watering the earth.”
Hosea 6:3
“For my people have committed two evils:they have forsaken me, the fountain of living water,
and dug out cisterns for themselves, cracked cisterns that can hold no water.”
Jeremiah 2:13
Thankful for your words today. May His Spirit surround you this day and strengthen you tomorrow. Happy graduation to the Halbert family.
