Storm on the Horizon

It felt as ominous as it looked. The wind had suddenly picked up and the deep blues and dark grays of the clouds swept across the carolina blue sky like a blanket covering all in its path. It’s amazing how a simple one hour drive in the car can all of a sudden feel like a dangerous venture. It did.

This storm was both beautiful and terrifying. It startled me to see how quickly things turned. With lightning strikes moment by moment followed by thunderous booms of thunder, the sky was alive with activity. Wind, lightning, leaves flying, and a downpour of rain which consisted of very large rain drops. The windshield wipers of the car couldn’t keep up with the buckets of rain that were falling so fast. I traveled with 2 teenagers in the car and we went from “Wow! Did you see that?!”s to silence. I turned the radio down. We all listened to the storm and marveled at its sights and sounds. We were literally silenced, awed by the power of the storm.

And then, almost as quickly as it came, it was over. Done. Incredibly Blue skies and sunshine broke through as the storm passed. Phew. Relief. We made it through. Everything looked incredibly bright and beautiful with the shower and rinsing that the storm brought.

So here’s the thing. We all have storms in our lives, struggles and trials that we face. Some come on quickly with such intensity and are gone in a heartbeat. Others come on slowly and linger for longer than we think we can stand. But they pass. In time, one way or another, they pass.

And somehow, when the storms are over, things look a little brighter and more beautiful. We’re more appreciative of the little things because we made it through…through to the other side. I am convinced that some of the toughest things in our lives can make things so much sweeter on the other side…

So, if you’re in the middle of a storm of sorts, keep pressing on… This too shall pass. And in the middle of it, it sure helps to be aware that there’s so much in life we can’t control. That’s just a bottom line fact. But we can always tap in to the One who is in control and has all the Power. More than lightning and thunder. More than the wind. More than the circumstances that can feel so incredibly overwhelming. We can pray through and trust that God is so present. He is. (Trusting Him just makes us more aware of it!) It is but ours to invite Him to walk with us THROUGH the ‘storms’ of life.

And maybe, we will be awed and silenced by the beauty of the truth that He is greater and more powerful than anything that can overtake us. Anything.

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39

I love this!!! Thank you for the beautiful perspective. ‘Persistence’ ‘stand your ground’ ‘not giving up’ has definitely been on God’s heart for me! Thanks for being His ‘voice’ to me!

Thanks, Kate…so glad. I know that the waiting is tough…and am so believing God to answer your heart’s prayer. Love that His timing is perfect, and that in the midst of it, your words and heart are reaching so many who are in similar places… Love that.
