I love morning. It’s like a fresh start. Sometimes it comes a lot sooner than I’d like and I’m the queen of the snooze button, but I still love mornings.

I read some good things this morning. Some mornings, it’s just a quick devotion. Other  mornings, I get to linger a bit over coffee and music, and some mornings, like this morning, even though I was running a little bit behind, I decided to skimp on other things–not to skimp on time in the word. Had to get my head and heart in gear for the day.

And it was a beautiful day.  Here’s the view about 1/4 mile up the street… Kind of a sweet view I’d say.

I’m not going to write a lot. Just had a few thoughts on certainty…and with that, on un-certainty. I mean, we never know what the day will hold do we?  If you’ve lived more than a few decades you’ve probably seen  your share of lots of surprises.  Beautiful surprises, and tough ones. Sometimes we see indicators and signs ahead, other times, they just hit us out of the blue.  Beautiful things can come ‘out of the blue’, and intensely crazy hard things can come ‘out of the blue’.  We can be certain of this—there are plenty of uncertainties of what days, months, years can hold. And I’ve been reminded of that a time or two for sure.

That’s why I was thankful for the devotion I read this morning.  Oswald Chambers  had written about how we can miss the boat when we assume that we know the details of how God will  or won’t work out a different situation. He reminded the reader (me) in no uncertain terms that He is God and we (I) are (am) not.  I cannot certainly predict the how of what God will do.

But…I can absolutely be certain of who He is..and that He loves us with an everlasting love…that His mercies truly are new every morning (even sometimes when wrapped in packages we might not choose.)  I can focus on who He is rather than bemoan what my life isn’t.  It can be the difference between looking at our days with eyes of wonder and expectation, or dread and regret.  Am thinking that trusting in the who, sure makes the what a lot different. Grace changes the view and often, the outcome, because the way we respond to things isn’t out of fear and dread, but hope and trust knowing that we are loved and in good hands.

I’ve already written more than what I thought, so before it turns into a novel, will sign off. Oswald Chambers summed it up really well…

“Leave everything to Him and it will be gloriously and graciously uncertain how He will come in– but you can be certain that He will come. Remain faithful to Him.”
