Weekly Photo Challenge ~ Monument

The Journey Ends and Begins

This quickly became my favorite monument when I visited NYC last summer with my husband. It was sculpted by Luis Sanguino to depict stories of immigrants coming to the U.S. It is within sights of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. It inspired me to write this little poem because it showed such passion and so many stories wrapped up into one piece of stone. Definitely worth seeing if you’re in NYC!

Desperation meets destination
Immigrants’ imagination gives way to
solid ground, city sounds, and the reality that
the journey ends here
and the journey begins here
They are finally
