just what I needed to hear

I love Monday mornings.  Crazy isn’t it?  I didn’t always feel this way.  But in recent years, I’m just thankful for new beginnings.  And here we are at the ending of a year which means there is a beginning just around the corner.  Tomorrow, January 1, 2015, to be exact. With new beginnings come expectations.  Sometimes lots and lots of expectations.  Funny thing is, fear can often trail expectations, for with a hope, there is a fear that the goal,Read more

a little lesson in place value

Teaching place value to second and third graders is no easy task. To understand that a “one” has a different value depending on the value of it’s position, well, that just takes a bit of time and practice to wrap one’s 8 year old brain around. Or, one’s 50 year old brain, or 27, or 75 year old brain. Because one is just one, right?  No, not when it stands in the hundreds place.  Then it’s one hundred.  Or whenRead more

Sunday Stills ~ the next challenge “Legs”

Taking it All In

I’m taking it all in.  The sand in my toes, the sun on my face, the wind in my hair, and, most of all….the fun that my kids are having just doing their thing on the beach. It’s Christmas day, and the gifts have been opened, and there’s still lots of time until the evening meal, so we took a little venture to the beach.  I took off my boots, and sat in the sand and watched the fun unfold.Read more

a few Christmas thoughts on being empty and being full

There’s a lot of space under the tree this year. But the Christmas tree?  It is full, brimming with ornaments that probably cover every square inch of the tree. Every ornament tells a story.  It signifies a moment in time, a milestone, a period of time.  Yes, every ornament tells a story, and with 6 children contributing to the decoration of the tree, there are lots and lots of stories. As I decorated the tree this year, there were ‘stories’ IRead more
